Somaliland’s president pledges peaceful coexistence with outside world in New Year message

Somaliland president Abdirahman Irro pledged on Tuesday, 31 December, to remain “steadfast in promoting mutual respect, cooperation and peaceful coexistence” in his government’s dealings with the international community.

“Peace will always be the cornerstone of our foreign relations,” he said in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) page.

The president, elected in November 2023, also said his administration was “committed to upholding unity, delivering tangible progress, and serving the people who have entrusted me with their confidence”.

“My administration is guided by the principles of inclusivity and transparency, and my office remains open to your concerns, ideas, and constructive feedback,” Irro added.

The president urged residents of Somaliland to “prioritize security, uphold our shared values and embody the moral principles of our faith” as “we celebrate this New Year”.
