Sudan army leader arrives in Turkiye for annual Antalya Diplomacy Forum

Sudanese army chief Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al Burhan has travelled to Turkiye to attend the fourth annual Antalya Diplomacy Forum in the resort city of Antalya.

Lt Gen Al Burhan was accompanied by the Sudanese minister of foreign affairs, Ali Youssef, intelligence director Lt Gen Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal, and the director of the Defence Industries Organisation, Lt Gen Mirghani Idris.

Turkiye has previously offered to mediate between Sudan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE)  which the northeast African country has accused of militarily backing the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.

The UAE denies the accusations.

This year’s Antalya Diplomacy Forum will be held on April 11-13 under the theme of “reclaiming diplomacy in a fragmented world”.

Global leaders, policymakers, academics, business experts and as well as representatives of media and civil society to explore how diplomacy can turn the tide.

Participants include Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who arrived in Antalya on Thursday.

On Thursday, Lt Gen Al Burhan visited the Eritrean capital Asmara for talks with president Isaias Afwerki on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest.

He was accompanied by Lt Gen Mufaddal.
