Sudan withdraws ambassador from Kenya amid row over RSF meeting

Sudan’s foreign ministry on Thursday recalled its ambassador to Kenya, Kamal Jubara, for consultation after the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) held a meeting in Nairobi to discuss a charter on the formation of a parallel govermment in areas under its control, state news agency SUNA said.

The move came after Kenya defended its decision to host the RSF meeting despite Sudan’s protest and accusation against Nairobi of violating its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Kenya’s foreign ministry had said that Nairobi had no “any ulterior motives” in allowing the RSF meeting to take place in its territory and that it has a history of facilitating peace talks in the region.

However, Sudan’s foreign ministry said on Thursday that Kenya was “encouraging and embracing the conspiracy to establish a government for the genocidal militia and its followers”.

The ministry accused the Kenyan government of “violating international and regional conventions”, SUNA reported.

It also accused Kenya’s government of providing support to “the terrorist militia”, saying Nairobi had become “one of the main centers for the militia’s political, propaganda, financial and logistical activities”.

Kenya did not immediately respond as the diplomatic row between the two countries deepened.
